Semundja e Arteriopatise Periferike eshte nje semundje e eneve qe furnizojne me gjak gjymtyret. Me shpesh preken sidomos arteriet e kembeve.

Shkaqet kryesore te kesaj semundjeje jane:
• Pllakat arterosklerotike
• Demtimet e lumenit (hapesires se brendshme) te arterieve (sic eshte arteriosklerosa obliterante)
• Demtimi i arterieve te madhesise se mesme dhe te vogel i shkaktuar nga inflamacioni, sic eshte ne rastin e semundjes se Buerger qe ka si shkak kryesor pirjen e duhanit.
• Mbyllja e arterieve prej nje demtimi traumatik
• Vaskuliti alergjik
• Probleme te kolagjenit qe eshte lenda e pare per muret e arterieve.
• Granulomatous angiitis dhe vaskulopati te tjera.

Qarkullimi i dobet i gjakut (iskemia) con ne reduktimin e furnizimit me oksigjen (hypoxia), si pasoje ne inde rritet sasia e dioksidit te karbonit dhe e disa produkteve te demshme te metabolizmit. Kjo mund te coje ne demtimin e mikroqarkullimit dhe enjtjen e zones problematike , qe shton shtypjen ndaj kapilareve dhe perkeqeson iskemine.
İskemia, hipoksia dhe infeksioni jane shkaktaret kryesore qe i bejne plaget te pasherueshme dhe mund ta perkeqesojne gjendjen deri ne gangrene.
Neqoftese nuk trajtohet sic duhet atehere gangrena perparon dhe ben te pashmangshme prerjen e gjymtyres (te nje pjese ose te gjithe).
Simptomat: Simptomat madhore ose me te shpeshta jane dhimbja dhe shtrengime te shoqeruara me mpirje dhe dobesi ne gjymtyren e prekur. Ulcerat Arteriale jane pergjithesisht te lokalizuara ne periferi te kembeve si ne majat e gishtave ose ne pjeset e kembes qe jane te ekspozuara ndaj presionit. Ne varesi te furnizimit me gjak keto vende problematike mund te kthehen ne gangrene (inde te vdekura ose nekroza).

Efekti kryesor i Terapise Hiperbarike me Oksigjen (HBOT) ne Ulcerat Arteriale eshte:
1. Furnizon mjaftueshem me oksigjen.
2. Ndalon demtimin e metejshem te indeve te shendetshme (qe nuk jane prekur por qe jane prane zones se demtuar).
3. Formohen kapilaret e rinj nen efektin e HBOT dhe mund te permiresojne qarkullimin e demtuar te gjakut qe eshte shkaktuar nga arteropatia (semundja e arterieve).
